Business Continuity Disaster Recovery Planning

At CSI our methodology is based upon client needs.  We develop special consulting methods based on the computing environment, business processes and project goals.

PHASE I – PROJECT PLANNING

A kickoff meeting begins all projects where consultants consider organizational requirements, scope of the project, discuss project goals and verify contractual agreements.  We then develop a project schedule using Excel or MS Project to follow and track project success.

PHASE II – RECOVERY ANALYSIS

Risk Assessment – A risk assessment is a research and analysis process that considers your organization, your facility, its location and the area surrounding it. This process will help you identify your organization’s vulnerabilities and threats then mitigating actions and recommendations will be presented to reduce these risks..

Business Impact Analysis -The business impact analysis (BIA) identifies and prioritizes business processes, equipment and computer applications.  We quantify the potential impact over time upon your organization if these essential resources are unavailable. This also documents each business processes interdependencies inputs/outputs, interfaces and the file, media, or method used. We will use this information to establish a foundation for building recovery strategies or to verify the current recovery strategies.  In many projects plan data may be collected during these BIA interviews.

Recovery Strategy Development & Recommendation We combine your organization-specific information (the recovery requirements data and information from the Risk Assessment and the Business Impact Analysis) with information from vendors and independent research to develop viable recovery strategies for your organization.

PHASE III – PLAN DEVELOPMENT

Plan Development -Plan documentation entails the formulation and writing of many types of business continuity plans. Corporate planning, IT planning, pandemic planning, management succession planning.

PHASE IV – PLAN TESTING AND EXERCISES

Plan Testing -A plan rehearsal consists of a mock disaster scenario to support a table top exercise.  Or we can conduct an actual test.  This involves testing the recovery strategy by either moving critical applications or even business processes to alternate facilities.  Recovery strategies that utilize cloud computing, virtualization and SAAS make this process simplified so a test could be conducted nearly anywhere there is web access so information security is of the essence in this scenario.  Service providers disaster recovery strategies need to be tested also.  The goal of the test is to assure connectivity of applications, functionality of business processes and make sure proper business equipment is readily available if a major disaster is declared.

PHASE V – PLAN MAINTENANCE

Client Assistance and Support Program – Comprehensive program for maintenance and enhancement of the entire business continuity program.
